I was configuring some Linux boxes today and discovered the ntsysv utility. This is a great command to see what services are loaded during startup. It pops up a simple GUI where you can enable and and disable services. Just run it at the terminal.

Update:
Configuring more boxes on different Linux distros. If ntsysv isn’t available for that distro you can use an equivalent utility called sysv-rc-conf.
